Clos des Fleurs (pronounced 'clow day flur' and literally meaning
'walled property of the flowers' consists of the main
house, annex, traditional outbuildings
and a walled garden (see plan and full descriptions
below). It was once the village school and access to the walled property
is through a secure iron gate off a country land in the peaceful hamlet
of Juaye, near the popular town of Bayeux. For more pictures see our photo
gallery.
| Is
Clos des Fleurs for you? If lumps in the lawn, a few weeds
or the occassional cobweb will ruin your holiday then perhaps our
house is not for you! This is not an excuse for us to scrimp on cleaning
costs - rather we are happy to admit that as a large, rural property
it will not be like staying in a modern 5 star hotel! Having said
that we have renovated the house to a good standard and have not spared
any expense on the furnishings ... and as a result we have had many
happy visitors (see the testimonials page).
If this sounds good to you then you're most welcome! |
The
main house ~ Downstairs the main house has a renovated kitchen/breakfast
room, large sitting room with traditional stone fireplace (seating for
eight), dining room and toilet - all with traditional tile floors and
beamed ceilings. Upstairs there are three luxury bedrooms (2 x king, 1
x twin)* and one bathoom with shower & toilet. A TV with satellite
channels, a DVD player, selection of books and hi-fi system are provided
in the living room. A cot and high chair are also available for kids.
The
annex ~ This building is split between three floors: the only
living accommodation on the ground floor is a basic kitchen/dining area
(the remainder is an old stable and apple store!). On the first floor
are two bedrooms - both king size. This floor also has a shower room with
toilet and double sink. On the top floor is a large triple bedroom (1
x king + 1 x single bed) with views to Juaye Mondaye abbey - the venue
renowned for its classic music performances.
The
outbuildings ~ The Clos des Fleurs has a variety of traditional
Norman outbuildings including a large double garage, converted barn (see
picture) with washing facilities and store room, wood store with plenty
of logs for fires on cold winter evenings, an apple cellar and a covered
BBQ/seating area perfect for evening meals. Guests are encouraged to use
all these facilities.
The
garden ~ The other half of the property consists of a well-tended
walled garden - completely private, south-facing and stocked with a beautiful
variety of flowers and fruit bushes. Enough garden furniture is provided
so that 12 guests can easily have meals under the dappled shade of an
apple tree (see photo). In the gravel courtyard is a rose garden and covered
well. A selection of garden games & hammock are also provided.

*Please note the
twin bedroom in the main house (which contains two single beds) is only
accessible through one of the king bedrooms. Historically this has been
used as a kids bedroom, but is perfectly suitable for adults.
